Wired: Great Geek Debates: Kirk vs. Picard
... So, who’s really better? There have been countless articles and lists written on the subject, so I’m not sure how much new territory there is to cover here. What I will try to do, then, is distill the argument down to five key subject areas, then compare and contrast Kirk and Picard (I’m only considering the original, William Shatner, Kirk here, incidentally, because otherwise this gets way too complicated): ...
There is no debate. It's this guy, hands down.

Picard was a captain. Kirk acted [that may be pushing the use of the word] more like someone with adult attention deficit disorder.
IMHO that is.

I prefer Kirk as played by Belushi on the original SNL

I thought one of the challenges for the person playing kirk in the new movie was being "kirk" without it feeling like he was belushi being kirk.
and I think he nailed it.

I agree. I thought he did a great job of picking up some of the mannerisms and the attitude without becoming silly. It is a great movie.
