I wonder if he's intentionally using Douglas Adams' phrase?

I think this is a good summary. We tend to live in fear of judgment, because we don't really understand what it would mean to live in oppression under wicked rulers and then learn that a good, just king has been enthroned and is setting things right. Like Richard the Lionheart in the Robin Hood legends (which would cast the church as the Merry Men, perhaps?).
