As a layperson ("idiot") myself, I'm fascinated by this topic, and certainly intrigued by this review. But something about the "shaping the future" part feels strange to me. Are seminaries doing anything to address the future? The ones I am familiar with are resolutely looking to the past (whether 1955 or 1517) and ignoring the present. It seems odd to expect (or even to hope) that they might teach clergy to rethink faith at work.

Instead, I wonder if the women and men in the business world are going to have to come up with their own understanding of what it means to follow Jesus in the marketplace, and then invite their pastors to join them? This "bottom up" approach seems to me far more likely to succeed than asking seminaries to teach clergy who will, in turn, teach lay people how to integrate faith and work.

I'm certainly not meaning to disparage David Miller or this book, BTW. I was just struck by this as I read the review. The book is definitely going on my Amazon wish list.

I think this is already underway. We can't wait around for the theological academy to get on board. However, it would certainly be nice to have an ally and an equipper instead of an antagonist.
